Using family photos and other vintage images I’ve placed figures and objects into new surroundings, sometimes real, sometimes imaginary.

The contrast between subject and landscape challenges both our sense of space: far and near; and time: past and present.

In doing this I hope to bring the subjects nearer to us by presenting them afresh.

“The rich world of textures, fabric, and ephemera invites the viewer to peer beneath the surface of her multilayered work.  She leaves the viewer intrigued, which allows space for the observer, inviting them to interpret the picture and unravel its mysteries."

Contemporary Collage inspired by
and celebrating early 20th century women

Solo Exhibition.  August 28 - Sept 24, 2019

Throughout history women have boldly and often bravely made their mark on the world. This exhibition shines a light on some of these pioneers for science, healthcare, the arts and more.

Solo Exhibition: Lost & Found

July 17 - 28, 2019

Coast Collective Gallery, Colwood, British Columbia

Enter a world of textures and stories, of hidden treasures and the everyday made extraordinary. Wendy Duffield's current solo show, 'Lost and Found', encourages you to peer beneath the surface of her multilayered work.
Wendy's mixed media collages tell stories of pioneering women, brave aviators and sinister winters. Layers of fabric, paper and tulle allow further patterns and images to emerge the more carefully you look. You'll find wearable books rich with images and ephemera to transport you to another time and place, or blank to fill with your own tales and experiences. In Wendy's hands, boat navigation lights and electronic scraps get a second lease of life as intriguing and unique jewellery. It's certainly worth giving yourself time to linger, and this show is best seen in person. link to images
